Small business website design is something we do on a regular basis here at Foundation. Although it may seem like a no-brainer that all businesses, regardless of size, should have an online presence, an alarming number of small businesses do not feel the need to have a professionally designed website, or even have a website at all.
There are many reasons for this, but considering how low the costs of setting a up a new small business website design can be we, would advise all business owners to consider it.
As a small business owner you are more than likely always looking for ways to grow your customer or client base. As you grow and develop your marketing needs to grow with you. A small business website is a great way of achieving this, especially if it’s professionally designed to begin with.
Your website has the potential to reach thousands of customers in your area and it won’t cost any more than if it only had to reach 10. Unlike leaflets and flyers, which will increase in cost the more that you have printed and distributed, a website will remain a constant way to reach new customers without extra cost.
As a small business it’s crucial that people can find you. In the past one of the best ways of doing this was local directories, newspaper ads and leaflet drops. Today however, almost all of your customers will be looking for you online, and if you’re not there they won’t go looking elsewhere. Not having an online presence is essentially isolating your business from the majority of your local population who only search online.
A study from 2012 shows that even back then 85% of customers used internet searches to find local businesses. I think it’s safe to assume that number is even greater now.
A professionally designed and built website will help your business become visible to people who look no further than their phone when they’re in need of a product or service.
Although having enough custom is great, it’s not guaranteed to continue. Customers move house, older customers may become unable to continue using a service etc. You need to be able to continue to find new customers and clients on a regular basis and a small business website design is just the answer.
This is a response I’ve heard from numerous small business owners in the past, and to an extent, it’s a fair point. If you’re a local tradesman and you have enough business to fill your working week, what point is there in having a website to bring in new custom that you can’t handle? If everything continues along that path then in reality there is no need. However, reality isn’t like that.
People will move into and away from the area which means you could lose regular custom and have no way of attracting new custom to replace it. Another issue is new competition who may be more up to date with their marketing avenues. They may have had a professionally designed website published and are now the first port of call for local customers as they’re more aware of their presence.
Even if business is going well at the moment, you never know what might happen in the future. It’s better to be fully booked and have to turn business away (or even better expand to cope with it) than it is to have no customers and be constantly on the lookout.
Small business website design has been a cornerstone of what we do at Foundation and it’s something we strongly believe more businesses should look into. We recently completed websites for both Total Tree Fall and Ladies Fitness & Wellness, both small businesses from Worksop, Notts.
Although these are small businesses both of their websites instill trust in customers that they are professional, knowledgeable, and exactly who they should be getting in touch with. Even though you are a small business, your online presence does not have to reflect this. Small in size does not mean low in quality.
The way they have utilised the new brand throughout the marketing material and website design is outstanding and really represents LFW as the modern, exciting gym that we are.
